Every friend group has one. You walk for ten minutes, you stop at a traffic light, and when you turn around to say something, your friend has disappeared. Then you look down. There she is, crouching on the pavement, perfectly comfortable, as if the pavement was designed for exactly this purpose.
The caption sums it up: when my friends and I travel, wherever we walk, we squat. And the clip delivers proof from every possible angle. Next to a railway crossing by the sea. In the middle of a busy pedestrian street. In front of a modern shopping centre. Always the same move, always the same relaxed face.
Then the second caption makes it even funnier: when you travel with your low-energy girlfriend, she sits down wherever you stop. Some people need a coffee break. Some people need a bench. Our heroine only needs three seconds and a bit of pavement.
The outfits make it even better. A dark sailor-style school look with a face mask and a cute bag. Bright pink hair with star clips and a lollipop. A pastel traditional costume with flowing sleeves in front of an old temple roof. Whatever the style, the squat follows.
There is something deeply relatable here. Travelling is exhausting. Your feet hurt, your phone is at three percent and your friends want to see one more viewpoint. The squat is not laziness, it is strategy. It is the body saying: I will continue, but first I will rest at ground level for exactly as long as this red light lasts.
Our favourite moment is near the end, when one friend in a fluffy costume tries to pull the other along while she leans back and laughs. It is the eternal struggle of every group trip: the planner versus the percher.
And in a quiet restaurant scene, she finally gets a real chair and a slice of watermelon, which is clearly the reward she has been squatting towards all day.
So which one are you on holiday, the friend who keeps walking or the friend who squats down at every stop? Tag that friend. You know exactly who it is.
Don’t stop, friend, keep surfing!
