There is one sentence every home cook fears more than a burnt pan. It is not you forgot the salt. It is not the oven is broken. It is the sound of a car door outside, fifteen minutes too early. The caption sets the scene in Russian: when your husband comes home early and dinner is not ready yet.
She hears it first. A glance towards the door, a moment of pure panic, and then she is gone, sprinting up the stairs like an athlete leaving the starting block. Outside, the white SUV is already turning into the driveway, the autumn trees glowing orange and gold, completely unaware of the drama happening inside.
What follows is the fastest cooking show ever filmed. Mushrooms are chopped at record speed. Bok choy, tomatoes and a splash of soy sauce land in a big pan. Boiled eggs appear from nowhere. Somewhere between the cutting board and the stove she has also changed into a sparkly silver dress, which raises questions about how many arms she actually has.
Meanwhile the husband is taking his time. He stands next to the car, checks his phone, adjusts his sunglasses and strolls towards the house with the relaxed walk of a man who believes dinner just happens by magic. Every second he spends admiring the autumn leaves is a second she uses to set the table.
White tablecloth, plates in position, chairs pushed in. By the time the front door opens she is standing in the hallway, calm, glamorous and smiling, as if she has been waiting there for an hour. The pot is steaming, the eggs are perfectly halved, and absolutely nobody would believe what happened in the last sixty seconds.
We have so much respect for this level of organisation. Most of us would greet the early husband with a bag of frozen dumplings and an apology. She greets him with a homemade meal and a party dress.
Of course, the real hero of the clip might be the little phone holder in the car. It gives her exactly enough time. Without that slow parking manoeuvre, the story would have ended very differently.
So here is the question for all couples out there: when your partner comes home early, do you panic, do you order takeaway, or do you pull off a kitchen miracle like this one? Be honest. We will not tell.
