It always starts with one jacket. You walk into the boutique just to look. Just to get an idea for autumn. Then the shop assistant holds up a cropped black leather jacket, and suddenly you are standing in front of the mirror with your hands on your hips, checking the angle like a movie star.
That is exactly where this clip begins. A small boutique full of leather, rail after rail of black and brown jackets, soft blue lights on the shelves and a big mirror waiting for its next victim. Our customer slips into a short black jacket, zips it halfway and turns. Then turns again. Then once more, just to be sure.
Anyone who has ever bought a leather jacket knows this ritual. First you check the shoulders. Then the sleeves. Then you lift your arms to see if you can still hail a taxi. Then you pretend you are walking out of a nightclub at three in the morning. Only then are you ready to look at the price tag.
The jacket fits beautifully, and you can see the moment she knows it. The little smile, the flick of the hair, the hands sliding into the pockets. With black trousers and a black top it is the perfect all-black look, the kind of outfit that says I have plans tonight even if your only plan is the supermarket.
Of course, the shop has other ideas. Why stop at one jacket when there are forty more on the rails? A slightly longer one. A brown one. One with a belt. Before you know it, you have tried on half the shop and the mirror knows you better than your best friend.
That is the danger of a good leather boutique. You come in as a person and you leave as a jacket with a person inside it.
We think this one is a winner, though. Short, clean, a little bit rock and roll and still elegant enough for dinner. Some purchases need a long discussion. This one needs a card machine.
So tell us your record: how many jackets have you tried on before you finally said this is the one? Be honest, the mirror is listening.
Don’t stop, friend, keep surfing!
